Pair Fighting after Spawn

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

My LSS pair always fight after spawning. Both are fighting to guard the eggs. So far only one successful hatch but the fry were all eaten after I made a water change. The female lays egg almost every week at the bottom of the tank but all the eggs are eaten after second day.

Pls advise what should I do in order to have successful hatches.

The pair always fights after spawning.
It is quite normal but not a good pairing.
The eggs should be covered as soon as the spawning is over.
They can fight wanting to guide the eggs but the eggs are well protected.
It takes 4 days to hatch. During these days, hopefully they have come to the agreement; no fight. Let us take care the larvae.
If they still fight after hatching, then take out one of them.
For the next spawning break them and pair up with others.
Keep it up. You will make it one day.

Discus alone and not eating

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

I have 4 discus. One has always been smaller than the others and doesn’t seem to grow as fast.. In the last two days, I have noticed he is swimming alone and is not eating. What could be wrong with him?

Reply:
She is sick and not feeling well.
Most likely she has been bullied.
Put her in special tank.
Treat her with Epsom salt for 24 hours,
Then change water, treat her the Epsom salt again for 24 hours.
On the third day feel her some live food.
She will eat.

Discus Breeding Size

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

I would like to know, how big ( in inches ) the discus have to be to breed. Please answer my question, I’m really intrested in breeding discus, I love them… thanks

Reply:
The maturity does not depend on size.
The maturity counts on age.
Different strains vary different maturity.
Red base strains mature early. e.g. melon, Pigeon. ( 8 to 10 months)
Blue Diamond takes 12 to 18 months.
When it is mature, it can be 4″ to 5″. It will breed.
