Weird behavior of my discus

Recently, my discus had got the white spots on them, I was told that raising the temp and adding salt would cure the white spots. I rise the temp to 31c and added 10 tablespoons of salt for my 50 gallon tank. The white spots are gone now. But for the last few days, my fish has been acting weird. They tend not to move so much, have some trouble of balancing, and sometime lay on the gravel. After seeing that, I quickly did a 1/3 water change. The fish would be back to normal after the water change. It had happened twice in the last 3 days. I was thinking that maybe the ammonia level in the tank is too high. I also noticed that there is a lot of white things attached on the glass and heaters. Was it because that the ammonia level was too high, so that the bacteria died? If it is, is there anyway I could get the tank back to normal without moving my discus and re-cycling the tank with a hardy fish?
